The 6th ERAHS > FIELD TRIP > Corbicula Fishery

Gwangyang and Hadong’s Jaecheop(corbicula clams)catching was recognized by The Oceans and Fisheries Ministry for its value as Korea-Nationally Important on November 30, 2018. Seomjingang River which accounts for more than 70 percent of the nation’s Jaecheopproduction is the main producer of Korean Jaecheop. Fishermen in Hadong and Gwangyang are sticking to the traditional fishing method of harvesting Jaecheop using a hand-tool called ‘Geolang-e’. If you drag the sand from the bottom of the river into the gutter, the sand will escape the waves and only the Jaecheop will be left.
